New Year, New Books: On This Year’s Reading Plan

Ah the start of the New Year. Time for all those reading resolutions, the setting of the Goodreads reading challenge, and taking stock of the holiday book haul. If you are like me, New Year’s resolutions are easily made and just as easily forgotten. I do enjoy setting goals but this year I want to be more gentle and flexible so I don’t set myself up for failure.  Therefore, I decided to set my Goodreads challenge to 15. Slightly more than one a month as I’m already close to finishing a book I started last year and I have some lighter reads planned.

First up, I’m going to finish They Fought Like Demons: Women Soldiers in the Civil War by DeAnn Blaton and Lauren Cook. I started it back in August and am just a few pages, Conclusion, and Appendix away from finishing it and giving a review.

Next on my list are two books I received for Christmas. The Finishing Stroke by Ellery Queen and Tied up in Tinsel by Ngaio Marsh are both Christmas murder mysteries. (I know, nothing spreads the Christmas cheer better than a dead body). I’m particularly excited about the Ellery Queen book as I love watching the tv show from the 70s and I have another to read after.

That’s it for my near future reading plans. I usually try not to make too many of those because they end up getting derailed. I prefer to read what I’m excited about and that changes quite often. I did get a nice stack of books for the holidays though so I am not short on options.
